75th Annual Rush Springs Watermelon Festival & Rodeo
Thousands of fun seekers will head to the
small Oklahoma town of Rush Springs this
Saturday for the 75th edition of the Rush
Springs Watermelon Festival. One of the largest
continously held festival that is on the second
weekend in August, and held at Jeff Davis Park
on the east side of Rush Springs. This event
celebrates the local crop of watermelons, and
the family farms that raise them with watermel-
on-themed activities, carnival rides and plenty
of old-fashioned, family-friendly entertainment
for all.
The Festival has been held continuously
since 1948, has grown to become one of the
most popular festivals in Oklahoma, attracting over 20,000 visitors each year and
serves 50,000 pounds of juicy, ripe melon to festival-goers for free beinning at
4pm on Saturday.
The carnival runs Thursday through Saturday. A wristband may be the best deal
on rides. The carnival will operate from early evening into the night each of the
three days.
The festival kicks off with the
Annual Rush Springs Rodeo on
Thursday and Friday at Rusty
Acres Arena located just North of
the flashing light on Highway 81.
The rodeo promises action-
packed events and a calf scramble
at 8 pm each evening. A rodeo
parade full of history and honor,
horses, big and little cowgirls and
cowboys dressed in the colors of
the old west will head down main-
street then to the rodeo grounds
beginning at 5pm.
Saturday will open the festival with flag and prayer ceremonies at 9am, the
Tiny Tots contest to pick who will serve as little Mr and Miss Rush Springs will
be center stage at 9:30. then at noon, locals, visitors, politicians and anyone who
