The 10th annual Rock Island Arts Festival (RIAF) 2018 will soon be under way
as the community comes together to Celebrate Chickasha for three days of arts
and activities!
Chickasha Area Arts Council (CAAC) will transform historic Train Depot
and Mill Building areas of downtown Chickasha into the Rock Is-
land Arts Festival from Friday through Sunday, September 28-30.
Festival attendees will be able to visit the tents and booths of a
variety of artists and crafters, businesses and direct sales vendors
and enjoy a large variety of food and snack items from several
food trucks and stands. Children and youths can have fun with
the bounce houses, sand pile treasure dig, arts and crafts, pumpkin
painting and the Library’s activities in the Depot.
There will be a “Writer’s Corner” where visitors can purchase books written by
local authors and can have them autographed. Creative art work of area students
will be on display in the Depot, and visitors can learn techniques in pottery mak-
ing.
A beer and wine garden for adults will be featured and there are two stages on
which musicians and performers will entertain.!
Performing on the large stage on Friday evening is First Look Music with Tim
Brauer and Saturday evening’s will feature the stylings of Travis Linville. Both
are from the Chickasha area and have been busy performing their music in a vari-
ety of venues in Oklahoma as well as out-of-state.
Other performers on the schedule include dancers, a Michael Jackson imper-
sonator, the Oklahoma Kid who performs trick roping and comedy,
roaming minstrels, steel drums, acoustic guitar, and others.
Camino Natural Resources, LLC will sponsor RIAF’s Main
Stage at the Mill Building and Union Pacific will sponsor the Sec-
ond Stage located on the Festival grounds. Many other businesses,
individuals, and organizations have been very generous in donating
funds and supplies in support of the Rock Island Arts Festival this
year.
Those attending the Arts Festival on Saturday will also be able to
enjoy three additional activities being held on East Chickasha Avenue and in the
Depot area. They include the 1st annual Oklahoma Food Truck Competition, 2nd
annual Rock Island Ride bicycle ride for charity event, and the 3rd annual Togeth-
er We Heel walk from the YMCA to the Rock Island Arts Festival stage.
The Rock Island Arts Festival is a major activity for the community and volun-
teers are always needed. Anyone willing to volunteer setting up or working the
Festival, can contact Sue at (405) 274-7547 or email director@rockislandartsfesti-
