The annual Veterans Memorial Day ceremony
will be held at the Grady County Veterans Memo-
rial located on the west side of Chickasha’s Shannon
Springs Park on Monday, May 28 at 11 am.
If there is inclement weather, the program will be
moved to The Chickasha Elks Lodge located at 1818
West Country Club Road and it will be announced on
radio station KWCO 105.5 FM.
The guest speaker will be Mark Ochsenbein, Retired
Army Special Forces. He is still very active help-
ing with our veterans and works with the National
Soldier’s Wish Program.
Sherri K Lewis, Chairman and Founder
of the Grady County Veterans Memorial, said the
program will include recognition of the county’s sec-
ond returning Killed In Action(KIA) from the Korean
War, Sargent Ollie Shepard, who had lost in life in
Korea and his remains were recently matched with a
family member’s DNA.
Lewis said the Oklahoma Veterans Recognition
Committee has had Shepard’s name permanently
etched on The Memorial along with the Gold Star
denoting KIA.
Following the program, the Chickasha Elks Lodge
will serve the traditional ham, scalloped potatoes,
green bean and desert dinner starting at 12:30 for
veterans and their families.
The Elks support Veterans not only locally but
Elks from around the United States contributed
more than $460 million this past year to help Ameri-
can veterans and will continue the belief that “as long
as there are Veterans, they will never be forgotten.”
